Jung was born into a religious worldview that didn’t satisfy his spiritual needs. Driven to fill these needs, he spent his life working towards a new spiritual vision. Many of us in today’s world have a similar experience of not having our spiritual experience adequately contained by the religion or culture into which we were born. For some of us, the Jungian perspective offers a welcome alternative.
In this salon, Dr. David Thompson will lay out the basic spiritual and worldview beliefs that Jung developed in his life. He will compare and contrast these to the modern Western worldview and will also offer examples of other pioneering thinkers who shared spiritual perspectives with Jung, including Rudolf Steiner, Meister Eckhart, Henry Miller, Goethe, Teilhard de Chardin, Nietzsche, Mircea Eliade as well as the traditions of Ecofeminism, Esoteric/Occult spirituality, Process Theology, and astrology. Dr. Thompson will distill these ideas down to their central assumptions in hopes that this will clarify and strengthen the development of this new, important spiritual perspective.
